The World of Data?! - A participative citizens’ exhibition by Museum für Werte (Museum of Values)
Uncovering down the data together! As part of the Biennale, POCHEN 2022 presents a participatory citizens’ exhibition filled with data from and about Chemnitz. The experimental concept “The World of Data” was developed by the Museum für Werte and makes data in Chemnitz a sensory experience. In times of digital change, the Museum für Werte sees
data as a basic element of an informed, democratic society — and the self-determined use of it as a basic competence. Many people find it difficult to develop this competence,
because data is abstract. We can neither see, taste, hear nor feel them. Nevertheless, more and more aspects of our daily lives are being captured in digital data structures. Data is a form of expression of our reality. The participatory exhibition of the Museum für Werte makes this phenomenon visible by means of data from people from Chemnitz. In recent months, data has been collected, visualised, translated into information and its influence on our everyday lives has been reflected upon in various encounter and participation formats. They tell stories, they provide orientation and they help us to understand ourselves.
In addition to a survey, “The World of Data” is also the result of Data Walks through Chemnitz, guided exploratory tours through the city in which the participants go on a creative search for data. During the Biennale, you also have the opportunity to take part in such a Data Walk and collect your own data sets, visualize them together and experiment with them.
